Beaufort is a triennial art event that has been taking place since 2003 along the sea walls, beaches and dunes of the Belgian coast. For six months, art lovers, residents and tourists can come to admire remarkable and memorable works of art in each participating coastal municipality, across the 67-kilometer long coastline.
There are some amazing works of Beaufort public art along the seafront to keep an eye out for. There’s “I Can Hear It”, the twin gramophone-trumpets of Ivars Drulle, where you can listen to the sounds of the sea. A huge paint-splash of a sculpture called “Olnetop” stands in the dunes, created by Nick Ervinck. You can get great views from the striking Warande Tower.
Olnetop by Nick Ervinck has something monstrous. Although you can recognize different elements in the hybrid form, the installation mainly refers to splashing waves. The Belgian artist is inspired by the natural dynamics of seawater that crashes into the breakwaters with a constant force. .
