Iconic landmark of Tournai Grand-Place : the Unesco listed belfry tower, timelapse video stock footage with beautiful sky and cirrus high clouds
(Browse the collection : Tournai the oldest city of Belgium)
The Grand Place is one of the city’s relaxing area where you can enjoy (with moderation) one of our local specialities in the shadow of the Belfry, the Cloth Hall or the Saint Quentin’s Church. Not far from the church, you can find a way to a beautiful square and to the Red Fort, remains of the first city surrounding wall.
Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999, between 1992 and 2002 it underwent restoration and development of tourist facilities. You can visit several of the interior rooms and climb the 257 steps to the upper terrace with its magnificent view of the town and information panels providing geographic orientation.
The Grand Place, restored after devastating incendiary bomb attacks by the Luftwaffe in May 1940, has an almost unending row of cafe and restaurant terraces on its north side, under historic gabled facades.
