Strolling through the beautiful Ooidonk castle gardens in autumn : relaxing view of an angel statue with reeds flower in the evening light
(Browse the collection : Province of East Flanders time lapse and video stock footage)
Located near Ghent, the first feature that stands out when visiting Ooidonk Castle is the impressive Hispanic-Flemish red-brick architectural structure that truly makes the castle one of a kind in Belgium. Not to mention that very few castles across the country are both occupied and open to visitors.
Built in the late 16century, Ooidonk is one of the largest and most beautiful manors in Belgium. Owned by the t’Kint de Roodebeke family for almost 150 years, the manor revives in full glory in the 21st century. The owners had one single request: “everything must look like it has always been there!”. All different pieces of furniture and art objects have been restored and reassembled in a carefully curated setting.
The little-known Ooidonk castle is mostly seen from the other side of the moat by people enjoying the picturesque Ooidonk walking trail in Deinze. But visitors can access both the 16th-century castle and its gardens through the gate at the northwest end of the domain. The gardens are accessible, and the castle will be open to visitors from July to November
