Ooidonk Castle is owned by Count t’Kint de Roodenbeke, who still resides here himself – not in the main building but in one of the two towers across the courtyard. Dating back to the sixteenth century, the castle is one of the more extravagantly decorated in the country.

If you are interested in a peaceful outing and a place of tranquility, and want a place that is just full of history, the Kasteel van Ooidonk (van Ooidonk Castle) is the place for you! Not only is this a peaceful place to visit, but it is also one that is incredibly unique. It is a fine example of the Hispanic-Flemish architectural style that came about during the Renaissance period. Although it was rebuilt in 1595, it is one of Belgium’s finest castles. With its grand moat and fairy tale turrets, this is the place to go. It is different from other châteaux as well, as rather than being a museum, this is a living home, and it’s something which visitors can easily sense when they visit.
Ooidonk is described as one of the most beautiful castles of the country and as a jewel of the Flemish-Spanish 16th century architecture. The outside view of the castle, with its many towers, chimneys and stepped gables, recalls the image of the French Loire-castles like the one in Chambord.
