Brussels skyline view in winter sunset light, time lapse of the town hall tower shot from Sts Mickael and Gudula cathedral with gold colors and slow clouds
(Browse the collection : Brussels City and Region time lapse and video stock footage)
This Brabantine, Gothic, 96-meter-high tower was designed by Jan van Ruysbroek, who was the court architect of Philip the Good. The tower had replaced the old, smaller belfry by 1455. On top of the spire stands a five-meter, metal statue of the archangel Michael, the patron saint of Brussels.
Saint Michael is the Guardian of the Catholic Church and, as mentioned earlier, also the patron saint of Brussels ever since the Middle Ages. In Catholic writings, Saint Michael the Archangel is the defender of the Church, fighting Satan and helping lost souls in their final hours.
Brussels is an architectural treasure map, with so many different styles and even a few buildings that are considered to be UNESCO World Heritage.
