Maybe the most picturesque place in Bruges : Bonifacius bridge, in the heart of the historic city centre, close to museums, churches and medieval buildings
(Browse the collection : Bruges cityscape time lapse and video stock footage)
The luxury Bed and Breakfast Bonifacius has an exclusive location along the canal with views of the most impressive historic buildings such as: the Church of Our Lady, the Gruuthuse Museum, the Arentshof and the picturesque Bonifaciusbridge. It is one of the most beautiful corners of the city.
The secret lies behind the church. A city guide showed us this little alley that leads to the Bonifacius Bridge on a rainy afternoon in November. We found a perfect beacon of serenity, the structure’s tiny picturesque lights reflected in raindrops. A bad picture was impossible. We felt like we’d stumbled on the “authentic” old Bruges; it was easy to imagine being in the Middle Ages in this romantic spot. The truth, however, can be a bit harsh. Our guide tried to ruin a perfect moment by telling us that the bridge was built in the 20th century, making it one of the youngest bridges in the city. But to be fair, not even that could ruin this fairytale place for me.
The very photogenic Boniface Bridge may be one of the youngest bridges in Bruges, but it sums up the city perfectly. A mysterious atmosphere, abundantly romantic and fabulous views that fight for your attention. Should you gaze at the little canals and overhanging half-timbered houses, or should you tilt back your head to admire the stately Church of Our Lady, or the adjacent Gruuthuse Palace? A magical place at every hour of the day, and one that must be seen to be believed.
