Ghent still feels fairly small compared to other cities in Europe and despite being a great place for a break, it is not overrun by tourists and sightseers.
Ghent is a perfect blend of industry and medieval architecture which will appease every travellers European city palette.
The beautiful historical centre, the peaceful canals, the contrast between old and modern architecture, the bustling cultural scene… there are many reasons to visit Ghent and we’ve tried to collect them all in our new city guide.
Even if you have no specific destination, a walk through the many old streets will enhance the Christmas feeling. Be sure to pass by the Castle of the Counts: in winter it’s even more enchanting. Or take a stroll along Graslei and Korenlei, where the beautiful façades and atmospheric lighting are reflected in the river Lys.
