The Northern Quarter is the central business district of Brussels, Belgium. Like La Défense in Paris, the Docklands in London or the Zuidas in Amsterdam, the Northern Quarter consists of a concentrated collection of high-rise buildings where many belgian and multinational companies have their headquarters.
Brussels is a city with an impressive number of diverse architectural buildings that span from stunning examples of Art Nouveau to more contemporary modernist projects with organic shapes and environmentally conscious designs.
“What happened in the North District in the 50s and 60s is an incredible urban planning mistake that was based on a poorly understood modernism and on the idea that the future would mainly belong to the car and large office buildings,” said Pascal Smet. “Humanity was almost completely forgotten.”
